SIMPLE PROCESS -
The Playing Lesson Video Review:

Now you can examine the video of your swing to see your swing in action, On the Course, Where It Matters!  When the videos of your playing lesson were ready, you were sent an email from the coach with key comments and Important Information to access the videos.   Here's how to view it and pick up the learning points quickly and effectively.

FIRST, Play the video in it's entirety just to see the whole swing.  Next examine the comments and THEN, step through the video one part at a time.

Use the JWPlayer controls to start, stop, pause quickly to see specific positions in the golf swing.  WHEN you have reviewed a section, Make Some More Notes in you Playing Package or in you Golf Journal.  Having done that, go to the range and practice to improve.  The best way to improve is using drills for a SPECIIC part of your swing then TEST the changes in a normal full swing.

And Remember that you should only work on one thing at a time, in 6 to 8 ball sets (1 club, with 1 swing to 1 target).  Then change one aspect and continue to work.

HERE are your videos: face-on view and down-the-line view:

HERE are your swing video Notes:

Ed, Unfortunately I only have the one down-the-line video of you and Marlene, and none that are face-on view...

Ed, The Good news is that you have always had a powerful swing taht produces great results but inconsistently.

Ed,  The Bad news is that you have a very armsy swing with little torque in it.  Is it possible that we could get the hips turned earlier so you get a better weight shift before impact and thereby get a very consistent swing?  Think of it as, from the top of the backswing, driving the right knee, right shoulder and right hand more down through the ball along the ground and this should allow you to release through and stay down in the shot better.  You will find it easier, once the weight has shifted forward before impact, to turn and get the speed through the ball, and the need for arm strength reduces so you can swing easier and the game takes less work.  The other aspect is the spine angle, how you move away from the ball with your upper body to lose the spine angle and how you compensate during the swing.  if this is an absolutely consistent move then you need not worry.  In a pressure situation, this may defeat all your other good swing moves, and give you inconsistent results.  Let's see about working on that in 2010...

Marlene, The Good news is that you look much more relaxed and follow a standard routine when you swing the golf club.

Marlene,  The Bad news is that your address position is too close to the ball.  Since the arms extend away from the body during the swing you need to pull it back in and lose the proper spine angle. so step back 1-2 inches for better contact and straighter ball flight during the swing.  When youswing you are not turning the left shoulder back under the chin and lifting the club flatter than the swing plane.  So now you have to lose the spine angle to simply throw the club back to the ball.  Think of it as turning your whole left side around your right posket and then visa versa as you swing through the ball.  You have the proper use of the hands on the way back where the left comes over the right on the backswing, but you don't do the opposite enogh on the swing through the ball -  get the right hand to turn release, that's getting the right hand to turn over the left, and the shots will straighten out.  Lastly you are coming up and back down to the ball, probably because of the lack of turn around the spine, and this causes mis hits because you cannot properly return to the position near address where you have the clubface on the ball in the proper position.  Now don't get upset that I've given you a lot of points here.  lets work on a more turning easier swing for you in 2010...

Added Focus Points...
That's the swing.  When you practice make sure you  think about a target AND a course condition you'll face for the shot you're working on.  Then consider a situation in your head to swing in.  Have you just birdied the last hole and now it's the next tee shot?  Have you just had a blow up hole and now it's time to get on track?  Does this shot get you right ther to break through that barrier?  Whatever the situation, please put yourself in it mentally and physically with a good preshot routine and go through the motions.  Now when you play you'll be able to manage the swing mechanics, the game . shot management and the mental / emotional controls all at once when you need it.  Cheers...

NOW WHAT?   Take the Next Step…

First, keep your Pocket Playing Lesson Practice Plan Handy and Safe! After all that work, you don't want to loose it! And don't be afraid to add as many notes as you like on the Discovery pages.   Do you remember some points or questions about you Swing, Game, or on the Mental side??? Write them down.  This may be a work in progress.  I have known students to transfer all these pages and notes into a separate color coded pocket binder.

Next, Analyze you Discoveries, Playing Statistics and Personal Practice Plan.  What jumps out at you as you biggest Weakness?  Next biggest Weakness?  Then Prioritize these to focus on getting the biggest bang for your buck.  The greatest gains in you golf game will come from improvement  of the biggest weakness, Right?  Now don't forget about your Strengths and practice them regularly to maintain them!

Now, set up your Goals and make a plan of the amount of commitment you have to achieve the goals.  Be Realistic about what level of time and effort you can practically fit into your typical life's schedule.  Then find the time by setting aside the time in your schedule, just as you would for a golf lesson.  Set your golf practice times, either with the coach or on your own.   And, Just DO IT!

Have fun with this.  Use one club to go to different targets, with different shot, full or high or low wind shots or chips.  try them all.  Then be sure to focus on the weaknesses by practicing the frills or awareness swings to discover where it's going wrong.  Once you have discovered where to focus or know what to focus on, PLEASE ONLY do 6 to 8 ball sets for that particular drill or feel of the swing.  More is just a waste of time.

Finally, save some balls in your basket to do some Deliberate Practice.  Choose a target.  Go through your full pre-shot routine for every swing.  Then play a hole, a par 3, par 4, and a par 5, with the clubs you would normally hit, IN THAT ORDER.  Count the strokes as if you were playing on the course.  If you miss your target, add a stroke for the recovery shot to get back into play.  DON'T GET FRUSTRATED HERE.  Just do this to have fun playing in the 10 minutes it takes to do your Deliberate Practice.  Remember - Every Shot Has A Purpose!

If you need help,  contact Coach Rick about supervised practice in the monthly Personal Golf Coach Program.  The coach helps you in 2 hour practice sessions and golf balls are included.  At $100 per month, the program pays for itself.  Contact us at (510) 917-6442, or  Email Coach RickPGAPro@gmail to say "I want to Practice with the Coach" - Here
